Robevci House
A symbol of 19th-century Ohrid town architecture, today a museum.
Location
The Robevci House is one of the most striking examples of traditional Ohrid town architecture and a testimony to the time when Ohrid was an important trading and craft centre.
It was built in the first half of the 19th century for the well-known Robevci family of Ohrid. After a great fire the house was rebuilt in the 1860s, when it received the appearance we recognise today.
Its architecture is adapted to the steep terrain of the old town. The tall structure, wooden verandas, bay windows and carefully organised interior are characteristic of the wealthy Ohrid houses of that time.
The house is not only an architectural monument. It also tells the story of Ohrid's merchant families – their way of living, family organisation and social standing.
Today the building houses a museum collection of objects related to the archaeological, historical and ethnological heritage of Ohrid.
