Tour 1: Ohrid step by step through the centuries
One tour, a thousand stories
Welcome to Ohrid – a town where history is not locked away in museums but lives in the streets, the stone walls, the old houses, the churches and the view of the lake. This tour leads you through the heart of old Ohrid, along a path where more than two millennia of history meet within just a few kilometres. From ancient Lychnidos and the early-Christian basilicas, through the medieval spiritual and literary centre, to the town architecture of the 18th and 19th centuries – every stop reveals a different face of the town. Ohrid is part of the UNESCO World Heritage: Lake Ohrid was inscribed in 1979, and a year later the protected area was extended to include the town's cultural and historical heritage. Follow the map, stop at each of the ten points and discover the stories hidden behind Ohrid's famous symbols.
